“(Balet was)... a highly refined artist, a most concise illustrator, and a colorist of great sensitivity.”
Professor Leopold Reidemeister as quoted in the Daily Mirror, Berlin, March 23, 1967
Watercolor
Balet’s watercolors are gems in miniature. In these studies, he explores composition, color combinations, and subject matter for use in future paintings.
Averaging only 5x7 cm, these small wonders exude the same vibrancy of color and shapes similar to those found in his more complete works. And although they lack the precision and detail of his paintings, Jan’s watercolors convey the initial thoughtfulness with which he explored his subjects in order to later present them with his own depth of insight and humor.
